A former longtime friend and business partner of Hunter Biden has called for the Trump Department of Justice to be restored to its impartial roots after President Biden announced he would be giving his son a full pardon.
Devon Archer, who served on Ukrainian energy company Burisma’s board alongside Hunter Biden, expressed optimism about the Trump DOJ and said the department needs to be driven by federal laws and founding principles of justice, rather than personal or political agendas.
Archer’s statement comes after President Biden announced on Sunday that he had pardoned his son Hunter, who was convicted in two separate federal cases earlier this year.
Archer has faced his own legal troubles, including a conviction for allegedly defrauding a Native American tribe and a subsequent sentence of one year and one day in prison. However, his conviction was thrown out by a federal judge in 2018, and then reinstated by the Second Circuit Court of Appeals a month before the 2020 election.
Despite his own legal issues, Archer has maintained his innocence and has said he intends to file a series of appeals.
The pardon applies to offenses against the U.S. that Hunter Biden “has committed or may have committed” from Jan. 1, 2014 to Dec. 1, 2024, a decade-long window that covers Hunter’s tenure at Burisma, among several other shady foreign business dealings.
Hunter Biden’s pardon has incensed Republicans, who have alleged for years that Hunter Biden’s business dealings while his father was vice president were not legitimate.
