In an exclusive interview with “The Story,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams spoke about the recent incidents of violence, including the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson and a school shooting in Wisconsin. Adams referenced the charges against Luigi Mangione, an Ivy League grad student accused of murdering Thompson, and the case of 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow, who killed two and wounded six in a Wisconsin school shooting before taking her own life.

Adams emphasized that there is “something happening below the surface with our young people” and that it is not just a matter of the recent violent incidents, but also a broader issue of mental health and the impact of social media. He cited the increase in suicide rates, suicide ideation, and depression among young people and the proliferation of hate and anger online.

Adams also referenced his previous statement about “our children being radicalized to hate America, to hate the country that put them where they are.” He warned that if the issue is not addressed, it could lead to more violence and tragedy.

The interview with MacCallum also touched on the role of social media in the recent incidents and the need for a serious look at the issue to prevent further harm.
