Emily Capretta, owner of Proactive Sports, shares her insights on California Strong.

Emily Capretta, the owner of Proactive Sports, spoke at the California Strong gathering, a grassroots coalition of entrepreneurs, thought leaders, and change-makers coming together to explore innovative solutions to California’s biggest challenges.

“As a small business owner, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges that California faces on a daily basis,” Capretta said. “From astronomical rent costs to censorship and discrimination, it’s tough for entrepreneurs like me to navigate the increasingly difficult business landscape. But it’s also clear that we’re not just fighting for our own livelihoods – we’re fighting for the future of our state and our communities.”

Capretta’s Proactive Sports is a fitness and wellness brand that offers fitness classes, workshops, and events to help people reach their full potential. With a passion for physical activity and a commitment to creating a more equitable society, Capretta sees her business as a way to bring people together and promote meaningful change.

At the heart of Capretta’s mission is a desire to create spaces where people of all backgrounds and identities can feel welcome, supported, and empowered. “I believe that where we move our bodies is a reflection of who we are as individuals and as a society,” she said. “If we want to build a more just and compassionate world, we need to create spaces that reflect those values – spaces where people can find strength, connection, and belonging.”

To that end, Proactive Sports has launched a number of initiatives designed to promote greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in the fitness industry. These include offering scholarships to underrepresented communities, partnering with local organizations to provide accessible wellness programs, and creating content that showcases the stories and experiences of marginalized groups.

“I believe that fitness should be a right, not a privilege,” Capretta said. “Everyone deserves access to spaces where they can take care of their physical and mental health, and where they can be their authentic selves without fear of judgment or discrimination. At Proactive Sports, we’re committed to making that a reality – one sweat session at a time.”
