Some Democrats Show Interest in Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE)
Maye Musk, the mother of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, is speaking out in support of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a new agency aimed at reducing waste and streamlining government functions. Musk appeared on “Fox & Friends Weekend” to discuss her views on government spending and waste, saying it’s “out of control” and “horrifying” as more is revealed.
Musk, a former Democrat herself, applauded the interest shown by some party members in joining the DOGE effort. Florida Democratic Rep. Jared Muskowitz has already joined the new GOP-led congressional caucus, which aims to tackle exorbitant spending concerns. He believes more Democrats will follow suit, saying it will give them a voice to fight for bipartisan agreement and against irrational proposals.
Other Democrats have also shared their ideas for making government operate more efficiently. Musk added that she’s “happy” that some Democrats share her concerns about waste and spending.
DOGE is expected to operate temporarily, with a planned expiration date of July 4, 2026, at which point the agency’s goal of reducing bureaucracy, eliminating waste, and streamlining government functions will have been achieved. Musk also discussed her new book, “A Woman Makes a Plan,” which touches on her experiences raising her children, including her son Elon, who as a child loved to “save the planet” and “explore another planet” so that “civilization can be saved.”
