A lean-looking Elon Musk revealed on social media that he uses Mounjaro, a prescription medication typically used to treat type 2 diabetes, to help with weight loss. The billionaire entrepreneur, who has previously expressed support for the use of similar medications to combat America’s obesity epidemic, shared a photo of himself wearing a Santa Claus suit and a flowing white beard, dubbing himself “Ozempic Santa.”
Musk explained that he prefers Mounjaro over Ozempic because it has fewer side effects, including the gas and bloating issues he experienced with high doses of Ozempic. He noted that taking Ozempic made him “fart & burp like Barney from the Simpsons.”
Musk has long been a proponent of using GLP-1 inhibitors like Mounjaro and Ozempic to help people with diabetes regulate their blood glucose and insulin levels. He believes these medications can also be effective for weight loss, a position that differs from Health and Human Services Secretary-designate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s stance on the issue, who advocates for more emphasis on healthy eating habits.
Musk’s support for GLP-1 inhibitors has garnered praise from liberal hosts of “The View,” including Whoopi Goldberg, who revealed that she too uses Mounjaro. Goldberg, who reportedly weighed close to 300 pounds just two years ago, showed off her new trim figure after starting to take the medication.
Musk, who has publicly stated that he does not enjoy working out, has previously used Wegovy, another GLP-1 inhibitor, in 2022.
