Elon Musk May Be Eyeing Liverpool FC Purchase
Elon Musk, the tech billionaire and notable Trump ally, is reportedly interested in buying the English Premier League soccer club Liverpool. As of May 2024, Liverpool is valued at $5.37 billion, making it the fourth most valuable football team in the world.
Musk’s father, Errol Musk, confirmed his son’s interest in the purchase in a recent interview with Times Radio. However, Errol Musk also noted that his son is not necessarily looking to buy the team, and that anyone would want to own Liverpool. Errol Musk’s comments come as a surprise, as a spokesperson for Fenway Sports Group, the current owner of Liverpool, denied any truth to the rumors.
The value of Liverpool has increased significantly since September 2023, when the group sold a minority stake to U.S. investment firm Dynasty Equity. At the time, Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon said that the group’s long-term commitment to Liverpool remained strong and that they would pursue opportunities to ensure the club’s long-term financial resiliency and future growth.
Musk has ties to the United Kingdom, as he has relatives in Liverpool and has previously gotten involved in British politics. He has used his social network, X, to call for a new election since the center-left Labour Party was elected in July.
