While some fans may not agree with the New York Giants’ decision to retain head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen, a team great has expressed his support for the move. Former quarterback Eli Manning, who played for the Giants from 2004 to 2019, believes the team made the right decision, citing the importance of continuity in a sport like football.
Manning, speaking to USA Today, stated that changing coaches and general managers frequently has not worked for the Giants over the past decade, and he believes Daboll has shown potential with his playoff win in 2022. He also highlighted the team’s talent and their need to build a strong team culture, which takes time.
Team co-owner John Mara acknowledged the disappointing season, but expressed confidence in Schoen and Daboll, stating that they will continue in their roles and will be given the time to turn things around. Mara emphasized the need for quick results, joking that he has “just about run out of patience.”
The team’s struggles were exemplified by their quarterback position, with the release of Daniel Jones and the failure to find consistency with their current quarterback room. Mara identified finding a quarterback of the future as their top priority in the offseason, which could be achieved through the draft or acquiring a veteran player.
