Ed Reed lands coaching job at Atlanta-area high school.

Former NFL Safety Ed Reed Named Offense Coordinator at Chamblee Charter High School

Ed Reed, a legendary safety who played 11 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, has been named the offensive coordinator at Chamblee Charter High School in Georgia. Reed, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019, joins the high school after a stint as a coach with the Buffalo Bills and a support staff role with the Miami Hurricanes football program.

Reed’s decision to join the high school ranks was unexpected, but he does have connections to the school. His son, Edward Reed, is a two-way football star at Chamblee, and his former Ravens teammate, Jamal Lewis, has a son on the team.

Reed had previously shown interest in coaching at the college level, but his stint as the head coach at Bethune-Cookman University was short-lived. He was named the school’s next head coach in December 2022, but the historically black college and university opted against ratifying his contract in January 2023.

Reed later apologized for comments he made about the conditions of the university’s athletic facilities during a live stream. He will now focus on calling offensive plays for the Chamblee Bulldogs, who finished the past season with a 2-9 record.

Reed’s new role marks a significant change from his days as a defensive player, but he is excited to take on the challenge. The Chamblee Bulldogs will look to improve their record under Reed’s guidance.
