The Philadelphia Eagles needed backup quarterback Tanner McKee to step in after an injury to starter Kenny Pickett, and McKee delivered, throwing his first two career touchdown passes to help the Eagles defeat the Dallas Cowboys 41-7. McKee, a sixth-round pick in the 2023 draft, was selected out of Stanford and had never previously played in a regular-season game.
McKee’s first touchdown pass was a 20-yard strike to star wide receiver A.J. Brown, who celebrated by throwing the ball into the stands. However, he didn’t realize it was McKee’s first touchdown pass until he got back to the sideline. Brown’s blunder was met with laughter and applause from the crowd.
McKee went on to throw a 25-yard touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith in the fourth quarter, giving the Eagles a 41-7 lead. The win clinched the NFC East title for the team.
With Pickett’s injury status uncertain for next week’s game against the New York Giants, McKee may be in line to start. However, the Eagles are likely to rest key players until the wild-card round of the playoffs.
