The Philadelphia Eagles responded to the Washington Commanders’ long drive to start the NFC Championship with a quick and decisive answer of their own. Just 18 seconds into the game, quarterback Jalen Hurts handed off to running back Saquon Barkley, who ran 60 yards untouched for a touchdown, giving the Eagles an early 7-3 lead.

The Commanders then embarked on an 18-play, 54-yard drive, making two fourth-down conversions along the way. However, they were only able to come away with a 34-yard field goal by Zane Gonzalez, trimming the deficit to 7-3.

The Eagles defense had a key play on their next possession, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Philadelphia. Barkley then added to his bigger performance, scoring again later in the first quarter as the Eagles went up 14-3.

Barkley’s incredible play has been a recurring theme, as he appears to be building on his impressive performance in the Eagles’ divisional round win over the Los Angeles Rams. The former New York Giants running back has run for at least 100 yards in four straight games and is nearing a fifth straight.

The winner of the NFC Championship will earn a spot in Super Bowl LIX, with the game currently scheduled to be played on February 4.
