Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is just 101 yards away from breaking the NFL’s single-season rushing record, currently held by Eric Dickerson. Barkley has already rushed for 2,005 yards this season, averaging 125.3 yards per game. He has run for at least 100 yards in 11 games this season.
However, with the Eagles already locked into the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, the team’s head coach, Nick Sirianni, has a decision to make: whether to rest Barkley and other starters in the final game of the season or to let them play for personal goals. Sirianni said he will discuss the decision with his staff, players, and front office personnel to determine what is best for the team.
Barkley has already expressed that he will be fine with whatever decision is made, stating that he came to the Eagles to do something special and breaking a record is special. However, he also wants to win and contribute to the team’s success.
The irony of the situation is that Barkley would be breaking the record against the New York Giants, the team that opted not to re-sign him after six seasons. The Giants are currently 3-13 and lost the No. 1 pick in the upcoming draft.
