Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown was spotted reading a book on the sidelines during the team’s playoff win against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. The book, titled “Inner Excellence: Train Your Mind for Extraordinary Performance and the Best Possible Life,” was written by Jim Murphy. Brown said that he brings the book to the sidelines every game and that it gives him a sense of peace. He also mentioned that his teammates call it a “recipe” and that it has a lot of points and mental game exercises.
The book has received praise from other notable figures, including golf great Stewart Cink and PGA Tour coach Matt Killen. Cink is quoted as saying, “My #1 tip for success: Read ‘Inner Excellence’ by Jim Murphy,” while Killen is quoted as saying, “I read the first version of ‘Inner Excellence’ six times. I recommend all my clients read it.”
Brown’s teammates were surprised to see him reading a book on the sidelines, with quarterback Tom Brady remarking, “I haven’t seen too many people read books, but I have seen a quarterback eat a hot dog.” The Eagles won the game 22-10, with Brown having one catch on three targets for 10 yards.
