The Populist Reform UK Party Surpasses the Conservative Party in Membership Count

The Reform UK party, led by Nigel Farage, has announced that its membership has exceeded that of the Conservative Party. According to the party’s website, they now have over 133,000 members, while the Conservative Party had 131,680 eligible voters in their recent leadership contest, which resulted in Kemi Badenoch becoming the party leader.

Nigel Farage hailed this development as a “big, historic moment”, stating that “Reform UK are now the real opposition”. However, the membership numbers could not be independently verified. The party has been gaining momentum throughout the year, with 14.3% of the national vote share in the general election.

The party’s growth has been boosted by the shaky start of Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s administration and endorsements from prominent figures, including Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla. Farage met with Musk recently to discuss a potential political donation, which could potentially disrupt the two-party dominance in British politics. If Musk were to finance the party, it could be a significant development in the country’s political landscape.
