“Win or Lose,” the First-Ever Long-Form Series from Pixar, Originally Featured Transgender Storyline That Was Cut by Disney
“Win or Lose,” the upcoming long-form series from Pixar, was initially set to include a transgender storyline, but it has been cut by Disney, according to Variety. The series, which premieres on February 11, follows the members of a co-ed middle school softball team as they prepare for their championship game, with each episode focusing on a different character’s perspective.
However, a source informed Variety that references to one of the characters’ gender identity were removed, affecting a few lines of dialogue in the show’s later episodes. Despite this, it appears that there was not a full episode dedicated to the subject matter.
A Disney spokesperson issued a statement regarding the decision, citing the need to respect parents’ preferences when it comes to discussing certain topics with their children. “When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline,” the spokesperson said.
The eight-part series, written, directed, and executive produced by Carrie Hobson and Michael Yates, and produced by David Lally, was originally intended to include a transgender storyline, but it appears that this has been scrapped.
