Penn State’s Abdul Carter was named defensive player of the year, moving from linebacker to defensive end this season and making 19.5 tackles for loss, including 10 sacks. Indiana’s Curt Cignetti was named coach of the year, leading the ninth-ranked Hoosiers to their most wins in program history in his first season.
