Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Latest Bid for Bail Rejected by Federal Judge
A federal judge has rejected Sean “Diddy” Combs’ latest bid for bail, citing concerns that he may pose a threat to public safety if released. Combs, 55, is facing charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation of individuals for prostitution, and is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York City.
Combs’ lawyers had argued that he should be released on a $50 million bond, but the judge denied the request, stating that “the government has shown by clear and convincing evidence that no condition or combination of conditions will reasonably assure the safety of the community.” The judge also noted that Combs has a history of obstructive behavior, including physically abusing his personal staff.
Combs is facing a life sentence if convicted, and his trial is set to begin in May 2025. The government has also filed a number of civil suits against him, alleging that he engaged in a pattern of violence and abuse, including physical and sexual abuse of several women.
Combs’ defense team had argued that he was not a flight risk and that he would be able to abide by any conditions of release, including electronic monitoring and a 24/7 security detail. However, the government argued that Combs’ history of violent behavior makes him a significant risk to the community.
The government also accused Combs of continuing to engage in obstructionist behavior, including deleting messages on his phone and providing falsified documents to the court. Combs’ defense team had previously argued that he was entitled to publicly express his opinions and post on social media, but the government argued that this was an attempt to sway public opinion and undermine the judicial process.
The judge’s denial of bail is the latest setback for Combs, who has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center since his arrest in September. His trial is set to begin in May 2025.
