Rizzi Hesitates to Announce Starter for Upcoming Game Against Packers
Rizzi, the coach, is waiting to announce his starting quarterback for next Monday’s game against the Packers, citing the possibility that Carr could be cleared to play after missing only one week. As of now, his choices are down to Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener, following Sunday’s performances in the narrow loss to Washington.
Haener started the game but struggled, with the offense generating only 38 net yards at halftime. Rattler entered at halftime and immediately jumpstarted the offense, leading the team to score on all four second-half possessions, including a final-second touchdown. A missed two-point attempt was the only thing that prevented the Saints from stealing a victory.
With the Saints having less than a 1% chance to make the postseason, per Next Gen Stats, it makes sense to give Rattler some rope and see if he could be an option in 2025. The rookie had an up-and-down first three starts early in the season, and giving Rattler the final few starts could display whether he has learned and developed since his first few outings.
