Deion Sanders Denies Coaching Dallas Cowboys Rumors, Former Teammate Disagrees
Deion Sanders, the University of Colorado head coach, seems to have put to rest rumors of him taking the vacant coaching position with the Dallas Cowboys. However, one of his former teammates, Daryl Johnston, is not convinced.
Sanders told ESPN that the opportunity to coach the Cowboys is “intriguing,” but he loves Boulder and everything about the University of Colorado. He has also mentioned that he would only consider coaching in the NFL if he were to team up with his sons, including his quarterback son Shedeur.
Johnston, a former teammate of Sanders’ with the Dallas Cowboys, believes that Sanders is seriously considering the coaching position. He mentioned that it would be a great opportunity for Sanders to coach his son Shedeur, who is expected to be a top pick in the NFL Draft.
However, Johnston also pointed out that the Cowboys already have a quarterback in Dak Prescott, making it unlikely that Sanders would join the team solely to coach his son. “I think you have to have that conversation up front and go ‘Listen, I know what your plan is, but we just don’t see that working out,'” Johnston said.
Sanders played for the Cowboys from 1995 to 1999 and was a part of the team’s last Super Bowl run in 1995. The Cowboys parted ways with Mike McCarthy earlier this week, leaving the coaching position open.
