Defense Secretary calls Guantanamo Bay “perfect place” for detaining migrants.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth Details Plan to Move Criminal Migrants Out of Country

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has announced plans to humanely move criminal migrants out of the country, working with other agencies to secure the southern border. In his first interview since his confirmation, Hegseth emphasized the need to process and repatriate these individuals to their homelands.

Hegseth specifically highlighted Guantanamo Bay as a “perfect place” to hold criminal migrants “safely in the interim” as the process plays out. The base, known for its detention camp for terrorism suspects, will be used to detain the “worst criminal illegal aliens threatening the American people,” according to President Donald Trump.

The plan is a step towards mass deportations, with Hegseth stating that the DOD is prepared to partner with DHS to defend the sovereignty of the southern border and advance the mission to get illegal criminals out of the country.

In a separate development, Hegseth emphasized his commitment to making the DOD “color-blind” and “merit-based,” with a focus on returning to the business of fighting and winning wars. He believes diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) has been detrimental to the success of the military, and plans to “rip it out root and branch” in favor of a more merit-based approach.
