Earthquake Near Tibet Holy City Kills Scores
A powerful earthquake struck a remote region near the holy city of Shigatse in Tibet, killing scores of people and injuring many more. The quake, which measured 6.9 on the Richter scale, hit at around 11:30 am local time, causing widespread destruction and panic in the area.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located about 30 kilometers northwest of Shigatse, which is a major city in southwestern Tibet and a key stop on the ancient Silk Road. The city is home to the famous Tashilhunpo Monastery, one of the largest functioning monasteries in the world.
Rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the area, but the remote location and lack of infrastructure made it difficult to reach the affected areas. The Chinese government has mobilized troops and emergency responders to assist in the relief efforts.
The earthquake also caused significant damage to buildings and infrastructure in the region, including roads, bridges, and homes. Many people were left homeless and without access to basic necessities such as food and water.
The death toll from the earthquake is expected to rise as rescue teams continue to search for survivors and recover bodies. The Chinese government has pledged to provide aid and support to the affected areas, but the full extent of the damage and the number of casualties is still unknown.
