A Dark Web Website Raising Funds to Assassinate President-Elect Donald Trump
A website on the dark web, titled “Destroy Trump,” has recently emerged, claiming to raise funds to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump. The website, which appeared two weeks ago, has allegedly raised $13,245 out of its $30,000 goal.
The anonymous author of the site, claiming to be terminally ill and near death, describes themselves as having the “right skills,” “right acquaintances,” and a “plan” to carry out the assassination. They stress that every dollar donated will contribute to the cause and urge readers to take action to “let’s do it together!”
Despite claiming to have already raised a significant amount, a review of the public ledger for both cryptocurrency addresses listed on the site indicates that no funds have been sent. The site has also failed to deliver on its promised $30,000 goal.
The website’s appearance comes amidst a series of close calls for Trump over the past year, including an assassination attempt in July and another in September. Scams like this are common on the dark web, with earlier examples including the “Assassination Market” site that launched in 2014, allowing users to crowdfund bounties on government officials.
It is unclear whether the Secret Service is aware of the website’s existence, as they did not respond to inquiries by press time.
