Dallas Malls Launch Drone Delivery for Purchases

DoorDash Partners with Wing Aviation to Bring Drone Delivery to Texas Malls

In a first-of-its-kind deal, Wing Aviation LLC, a subsidiary of Alphabet, and Brookfield Properties have partnered to bring drone delivery services to customers in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The partnership will allow customers to receive their orders from over 50 merchants at Stonebriar Centre in Frisco and Hulen Mall in Fort Worth.

After placing an order through the DoorDash app, customers will have the option to select drone delivery at checkout. Wing Aviation’s drones, which have a cruising height of nearly 150 feet, can deliver items and meals to doorsteps in under 15 minutes. The company has partnered with Serve Robotics Inc. to supply mobile robots that will pick up orders and deliver them to a Wing Aviation drone a few blocks away.

Wing Aviation has been operating in the US for five years and has completed over 400,000 commercial deliveries worldwide. The company has also tested beyond-visual line-of-sight flights in Australia and Ireland. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has given Wing permission to make BVLOS flights over Dallas, allowing the company to expand its services.

The DoorDash drone delivery service is set to officially launch at Stonebriar Centre and Hulen Mall, marking a new era in retail and food delivery.
