Cowboys’ Hire of Brian Schottenheimer Sparks Outrage and Criticism

The Dallas Cowboys hired Brian Schottenheimer, their offensive coordinator, as the team’s next head coach, a move that came as a surprise to many fans. Jerry Jones, the Cowboys’ owner, announced the decision on Friday, stating that Schottenheimer was “no longer a career assistant” but instead the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

Schottenheimer’s hire comes after a tumultuous offseason process that saw the Cowboys miss out on several top coaching candidates. The team’s failure to retain Mike McCarthy, who was let go after a disappointing 7-10 season, and their decision to hire Schottenheimer without interviewing other top candidates has left fans feeling frustrated.

Cowboys fans took to social media to express their disappointment, with many criticizing the team’s process and calling the hire a “cheap” and “lazy” move. Some fans drew comparisons to the team’s hiring of Jason Garrett, who took over as head coach after Wade Phillips was fired.

Schottenheimer has over two decades of coaching experience, having spent time with the Jets, Rams, and Seahawks before joining the Cowboys as an offensive analyst in 2022. He took over as offensive coordinator in 2023 and led the team to a fifth-ranked offense and an NFC East division title.

The hire has left many wondering what the future holds for the Cowboys, who have a new head coach but many unanswered questions.
