Adams Makes the Jump to Coordinator
Adams, 41, is set to make the jump to coordinator, following two seasons as the head coach of the O-line in Arizona. Prior to that, he was a member of the Indianapolis Colts’ coaching staff, serving as an assistant offensive line coach from 2019-2020 and then as the tight ends coach from 2021-22. The majority of Adams’ coaching career has taken place in college, where he rose from a graduate assistant at Boise State in 2005 to co-offensive coordinator and OL coach at Colorado in 2018.
Adams is expected to play a pivotal role alongside Schottenheimer in Dallas, helping to revitalize an offensive unit that finished fourth or better in each of its previous three campaigns before slipping to 21st in 2024. The team’s struggles were partially caused by quarterback Dak Prescott’s season-ending injury in Week 9, but even before then, the Cowboys’ operation looked uncharacteristically sluggish, and ground game received little help.
Interestingly, Prescott’s continued health once he returns will be crucial, as Adams’ O-line gave up just 30 sacks this season, the fifth-fewest in the NFL. While fans may be looking for a bigger splash, the arrival of Adams is an important step in re-establishing the Cowboys as contenders.
