As the Dallas Cowboys seek a new head coach following their decision to part ways with Mike McCarthy, star linebacker Micah Parsons is visibly affected by the change. In his podcast “The Edge with Micah Parsons”, Parsons expressed his sadness, stating, “I’m obviously very sad because of the relationships we had with Coach McCarthy and everything he’s done for our program… I am devastated.”
Parsons praised McCarthy, referring to him as a “great father, great coach” and crediting him with the team’s success, including three straight 12-5 seasons, playoff appearances, and two NFC East division titles. McCarthy’s tenure with the Cowboys saw a combined regular-season record of 49-35 and a 1-3 postseason record.
The team’s struggles this season, including a 7-10 record and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2020, were largely attributed to Dak Prescott’s season-ending hamstring injury. Under McCarthy, the Cowboys went 125-77-2 in the regular season and 10-8 in the postseason during his eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers prior to joining the Cowboys.
As the Cowboys search for a new head coach, Parsons expressed confidence in the team’s ability to make the right hiring, naming several reported candidates, including Deion Sanders, Kellen Moore, and Jason Witten. With the looming end of his rookie deal, Parsons is poised to enter the final year of his contract.
