UFC Star Conor McGregor Sued Over Sexual Assault Allegations Stemming from 2023 Bathroom Incident
UFC star Conor McGregor was sued on Tuesday over sexual assault allegations stemming from an incident in the bathroom at the Kaseya Center during a Miami Heat NBA Finals game in 2023. The alleged victim, a 49-year-old senior vice president at a Wall Street financial firm, claimed that McGregor assaulted her in the bathroom during Game 4 of the NBA Finals on June 9, 2023.
According to the lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida, McGregor’s alleged actions were ignored by staff and security at the arena, who had actual knowledge of the wrongfulness of his conduct. The suit also alleges that staff overserved McGregor, despite having knowledge of a heightened risk of battery being carried out.
The alleged victim’s lawyer, James Dunn, stated that his client had thought long and hard about filing the lawsuit and was fearful of the effect it may have on her job on Wall Street, but her main goal is to raise awareness and encourage others to report sexual assault.
Prosecutors had previously stated that McGregor would not face criminal charges over the alleged incident, and McGregor’s lawyer, Barbara Llanes, has since spoken out against the new lawsuit, stating that the allegations are false and that the State’s Attorney concluded there was no case to pursue following a thorough investigation.
The lawsuit is seeking an unspecified amount of damages, and the case will likely proceed through the court system.
