Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts finished the regular season with 630 rushing yards, making his running ability a key part of the Eagles’ offense. However, Hurts appeared to tweak his knee during last week’s divisional round playoff game and his movement was limited for the remainder of the game. Despite not missing a play, Hurts’ knee may affect his running ability in this weekend’s NFC championship game against the Washington Commanders.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said the team is cautious when using Hurts and knows how to help him take care of himself, including with the game plan. Defensively, Washington’s Joe Whitt Jr. plans to tackle Hurts like a running back if he chooses to run, saying, “If he’s going to run the ball, and if the coordinator makes the decision for him to run the ball, we’re going to treat him like a running back, and we’re going to hit him that way.”
In the Eagles’ previous meeting with the Commanders, Hurts ran for 39 yards and a touchdown in Week 11, but was injured in a 13-yard run in the second meeting between the teams, leaving with a head injury.
