Shane Steichen to Remain Head Coach of Indianapolis Colts through 2025

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay announced on Sunday that head coach Shane Steichen will be returning for the 2025 season, his third year at the helm. Steichen’s contract was solidified after the team’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 18, which ended their playoff drought at four years.

Despite an 8-9 record this season, Steichens job security had been in question following a 45-33 loss to the New York Giants in Week 17. However, Irsay has faith in the coach, who has kept the Colts in contention for a playoff spot through at least Week 17 in both of his seasons.

Under Steichen, the Colts selected quarterback Anthony Richardson with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Richardson, who was raw with experience, showed promise early in his rookie season, but injuries limited his playing time. This season, Richardson struggled with accuracy and was briefly benched in favor of Joe Flacco, before returning to the starting role.

Steichen’s contract extension comes as the team looks to the future, with Richardson expected to be the starter in 2025. General manager Chris Ballard, who has been with the team for eight seasons, will also be returning, as announced by Irsay.
