CNN host Jake Tapper ripped President Joe Biden on Sunday for his recent claim that Vice President Kamala Harris could have beaten President-elect Donald Trump. Tapper called the statement “nonsensical,” pointing out that Harris ran against Trump in 2020 and lost.
Biden made the claim during a conversation with reporters on Friday, saying, “I think Kamala could’ve beaten Trump, would’ve beaten Trump.” He went on to claim that his decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race was more about unifying the party.
Tapper disagreed, saying on his show “State of the Union” that “it’s just nonsensical” to suggest Harris could have beaten Trump. He argued that Biden was trying to backtrack after spending the previous months criticizing Harris.
Kamala Harris ran a strong campaign in 2020, but she ultimately lost to Donald Trump.
