Phillip Brooks, better known as CM Punk, is dissatisfied with the state of his hometown NFL team, the Chicago Bears. During a guest appearance on Netflix’s NFL coverage on Christmas Day, Punk aired his grievances with the team, specifically targeting the McCaskey family, who have owned the team since inheriting it from founder George Halas decades ago.
Punk stated, “Nothing’s going to change until the McCaskeys sell the team. I said it.” He also expressed his frustration with the team’s constant promises of turnaround, citing past disappointments such as Lovie Smith’s leadership and Mitch Trubisky’s play. “Oh, Lovie Smith is going to change the Bears. Oh, Trubisky is going to change the Bears. Then, we trade up and we lose [Patrick] Mahomes.”
Punk also chimed in on the team’s current season, questioning why they didn’t draft quarterback Patrick Mahomes instead of trading away the 2017 first overall pick. With the team now at 4-11 and eliminated from playoff contention, Punk believes the franchise’s shortcomings fall on the leadership’s shoulders. “I’m a Chicago sports fan, and, ladies and gentlemen, it doesn’t get any lower than that right now.”
