Baltimore Ravens Hire Chuck Pagano as Senior Secondary Coach
The Baltimore Ravens announced on Tuesday evening that they have hired Chuck Pagano as their new senior secondary coach. Pagano, a 64-year-old veteran of the NFL, will be returning to the coaching ranks after a two-year hiatus.
Pagano’s return to the coaching world is a familiar one, as he previously worked on John Harbaugh’s staff with the Ravens from 2008 to 2011. Harbaugh released a statement saying, “It is exciting to add Coach Chuck Pagano to our defensive staff and continue to develop and grow our young and talented secondary. Chuck brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and coaching talent to our team. He has deep ties to the program and is excited to get to work.”
Pagano’s NFL coaching career dates back to 2001, when he began as a secondary coach for the Cleveland Browns. He also held the same position with the Oakland Raiders before joining the Ravens in 2008. He was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2011, and then left to become the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, a position he held from 2012-2017. During his time with the Colts, Pagano posted a 53-43 record and remarkably fought through a leukemia diagnosis.
After a one-year hiatus in 2018, Pagano joined the Chicago Bears as their defensive coordinator from 2019-2020. With his return to the Ravens, Pagano will be returning to the team he once worked with, this time to help the reigning AFC North champions in their quest for a Super Bowl title.
