The teenage student and substitute teacher who were killed during the shooting at a Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday have been identified, and new details about the alleged shooter have been revealed.
According to the Dane County Medical Examiner, 14-year-old Rubi Patricia Vergara and 42-year-old teacher Erin M. West were pronounced dead at the scene, both due to “homicidal firearm related trauma.” The report also identified the alleged shooter as 15-year-old Natalie “Samantha” L. Rupnow, who died at the scene due to “firearm related trauma.”
The report states that more testing is still underway, and the City of Madison Police Department and the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the incident. No further information will be released at this time.
Vergara was a freshman at Abundant Life Christian School and was described as being an avid reader, lover of art, and singing and playing keyboard in the family worship band. Her aunt told Fox News Digital that it has been a “very hard week” for their family, and they are trying to get through her niece’s funeral, which is scheduled for Saturday.
The Madison Police Department confirmed that two guns were recovered from the school, but only one gun was allegedly used by Rupnow. The motive for the shooting appears to be a combination of factors, but the police chief did not elaborate further.
Police are working with Rupnow’s family, who are cooperating with the investigation, and searching her home. The police chief said that identifying a motive is the top priority, and they are taking their time to piece together what happened.
The shooting has left two students, aged 15 and 17, in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, a teacher, and three other students with non-life-threatening injuries. Two of the students have since been released.
