Three-time Pro Bowl tight end Mark Andrews received criticism for his role in the Baltimore Ravens’ playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills. Andrews failed to secure a short pass from Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson on a two-point conversion attempt late in the fourth quarter, which would have tied the game. However, former NFL quarterback and current analyst Chris Simms suggested that Jackson should also shoulder some of the blame for the loss.
Simms argued that Jackson’s pass was “not accurate” and that he double-clutched the ball before throwing it, making it difficult for Andrews to catch. He also praised Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken for making the “perfect play call” and emphasized that both Jackson and Andrews made mistakes on the play.
Simms’ comments came as a response to the widespread criticism of Andrews for the dropped pass. Jackson himself pushed back against the idea that Andrews was solely responsible for the loss, saying “We’re a team. It’s not his fault. We’re not gonna put that on Mark.”
The Ravens’ loss marked the end of their playoff run, and the team will look to regroup and improve for next season.
