Chris Rock Makes Brutal Dig at Bill Clinton and Slams Liberals Worried about Trump Presidency in SNL Monologue
Chris Rock’s Saturday Night Live (SNL) monologue was hailed as one of the funniest opening monologues in recent times. The comedian did not hold back in his seven-minute set, taking swipes at both sides of the political spectrum, including Bill Clinton and President-elect Donald Trump.
Rock referenced the recent election, citing it as a “bad year for my people, blacks,” citing Kamala Harris’ loss. He then turned to Trump, joking that he had a good year, “survived an assassination attempt, won the presidency again by winning the popular vote, and was just named Time magazine’s Man of the Year… You know? It could happen to a nicer guy.”
Rock’s joke about Clinton seemed to reference the former president’s reputation for scandal, specifically the Monica Lewinsky affair. He also poked fun at the idea that Trump was not the only president to have occupied the White House in a way that compromised its dignity, mentioning Bill Clinton as an example.
Rock continued to needle liberals who worried about Trump’s presidency, saying, “A lot of people are scared… When I say a lot of people, I’m talking about the nine New Yorkers who didn’t vote for him, okay?”
The comedian also joked about the historical reality of American presidents engaging in morally questionable behavior, citing Thomas Jefferson’s relationship with Sally Hemings, an enslaved woman. He then pivoted to Clinton, comparing his own “scandalous” reputation to Trump’s.
Rock’s set also included jabs at Elon Musk, who he described as “the number one African American in the world, the richest African American in the world.” He poked fun at Trump’s plans to deport illegal immigrants, saying they would work with Musk to “put them in a rocket ship – call it ‘SpaceMex’.”
The comedian ended his set by discussing President Joe Biden’s recent pardon of his son, Hunter, saying, “Only an animal would not pardon your son. Every parent in the world would pardon their son, except the parents of the Menendez Brothers.”
Fans praised Rock’s monologue, with many calling it one of the best in recent years.
