I’m Nervous that Chris Evans’ Return as a Villain in Avengers: Doomsday will Tarnish Steve Rogers’ Legacy
I was thrilled to see Chris Evans return to the MCU, but I’m now worried about how his return in Avengers: Doomsday will impact Steve Rogers’ legacy. After a five-year hiatus, Evans reprised his role as Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine, but I thought it would be the end of his Marvel Studios career. Instead, he’s been cast in Avengers: Doomsday, reuniting with the Russo brothers, Robert Downey Jr., and Hayley Atwell.
As Steve Rogers, Chris Evans has become synonymous with heroism, and his retirement in Avengers: Endgame was a perfect ending to his iconic character. However, Chris Evans’ return as a villain in Avengers: Doomsday has sparked concerns about how his new character will be handled. theories suggest that he could be playing a villainous Steve Rogers, which would require a significant departure from the character’s heroic persona.
The possibility of Chris Evans portraying a HYDRA-indoctrinated Steve Rogers is an exciting and terrifying prospect. This character has a rich history in Marvel Comics, and an evil Steve Rogers could lead to a twisted Captain Krakoa and spread mutant hate and discrimination. However, this also raises concerns about how intense a villainous Steve Rogers would need to be to have a meaningful impact, and whether Marvel Studios would be able to balance the shock factor with paying homage to Chris Evans’ heroic career.
I don’t want to hate Steve Rogers, and I fear that an evil version of the character could make his heroic legacy difficult to revisit. Marvel Studios needs to find the right balance to create a compelling villain while respecting the character’s integrity. Avengers: Doomsday is set to debut in 2025 and will mark the beginning of Phase 6 of the MCU.
