Chris Evans Denies MCU Return, Leaving Fans Skeptical About His ‘Retirement’

Marvel fans are calling out Chris Evans for denying his return as Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday, despite reports suggesting he will reprise his role. Evans recently stated that he is “happily retired” from playing Captain America, but fans are skeptical of his denial.

Fans have been sharing their reactions on social media, with some pointing out that Evans has appeared in Marvel movies relatively recently, including Deadpool & Wolverine. Others are referencing Andrew Garfield’s denial of his role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was later revealed to be true.

The fanbase is particularly vocal about the rumors, given the history of MCU stars misdirecting fans. The Wrap, a reputable source, reported on Evans’ return to the franchise, which has added to the speculation.

While Evans’ denial has left fans unconvinced, some are suggesting that he may not be returning to his original role as Captain America, but rather playing a variant of the character. Regardless, it would be a surprise if Evans doesn’t appear in Avengers: Doomsday.

The movie is set to release on May 1, 2026, and will be written by Michael Waldron. Fans will have to wait and see if Evans will indeed return to the franchise and reprise his iconic role as Captain America.
