Kelly’s NFL Success and Journey to the Las Vegas Raiders

Ad

Kelly saw quick success in Philadelphia, leading the Eagles to 10-win seasons in his first two years as head coach, but he was subsequently fired after a 6-9 record in 2015. He went on to coach in the NFL for only a single season with the San Francisco 49ers, resulting in a 2-14 record.

In 2018, Kelly took over as head coach at UCLA and led the program to at least eight wins in each of his final three seasons. After leaving UCLA, he became the offensive coordinator at Ohio State and led the team to a 14-2 record, winning the National Championship in 2021. This marked Kelly’s first National Championship in any capacity and his first since 2012 as head coach of the Oregon Ducks.

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels has brought Kelly on board as his new offensive coordinator, tasked with helping to turn around a franchise that has experienced only two playoff appearances since 2002. Kelly will face challenges in his new role, particularly with the need to revamp the team’s offensive positions outside of tight end. However, McDaniels believes Kelly is the right man for the job. Time will tell if he is successful in his new role.
