Prior to the Philadelphia Eagles’ 55-23 drubbing of the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship, the famous Rocky statue in downtown Philadelphia was dressed in Commanders (formerly Redskins) gear. However, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is skeptical that the Commanders’ fans are responsible for dressing up the statue.
Kelce believes that the Eagles are behind the statue’s costume changes, saying, “You think the Eagles are doing it? 100%.” This is not the first time the Rocky statue has been dressed in opposing team’s colors, with each occasion typically leading to an Eagles victory. For instance, the statue was dressed in a Tom Brady jersey after the Eagles won the Super Bowl over the New England Patriots.
Jason Kelce, Travis’ brother and former Eagles star center, also thinks the Eagles are responsible for dressing up Rocky, saying, “I’m fully aware of the fact that it happens every single meaningful game. I don’t think it’s the other team doing it at this point.”
Travis Kelce thinks the motivation behind dressing Rocky up in opposing team’s gear is to get Eagles fans riled up, saying, “They’re just firing up the entire city, getting it nice and rowdy.” The Rocky statue has yet to be dressed in Chiefs gear, but there is still time before kickoff in Super Bowl LIX.
