Travis Kelce’s NFL Dream Started as a Quarterback
Before becoming one of the best tight ends in the NFL, Travis Kelce was an all-conference high school quarterback. He passed for over 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns in his senior year. Kelce committed to the University of Cincinnati’s football program as a tight end, but also played quarterback in wildcat formations. He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round of the 2013 draft.
Kelce has always had a deep respect for quarterbacks who can do it all, and he’s not alone. When speaking ahead of the AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills, Kelce revealed that he wanted to be like Josh Allen when he was growing up. Allen is a big, athletic quarterback with a strong arm and the ability to be a dual-threat player. Kelce even got the opportunity to throw the football three times in the regular season and once in the playoffs, and he came through in the clutch.
Allen has emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and he’s vying for his first NFL MVP award. He led the Bills with 3,731 passing yards and 28 touchdown passes this season, and also ran for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns. The Chiefs and Bills will meet again in the AFC Championship game, with a trip to Super Bowl LIX on the line.
