The Kansas City Chiefs have secured their place as AFC champions for the second year in a row, leaving them just one win away from achieving a remarkable feat: three consecutive Super Bowl titles. In a post-game interview with CBS broadcaster Jim Nantz, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes expressed his excitement at the opportunity to make history.
“I’m just excited to get down to New Orleans. Let’s go make history,” Mahomes said.
Tight end Travis Kelce also weighed in on the team’s chances, saying “Never satisfied, baby! When you play in front of Arrowhead Stadium like this every single AFC Championship. You kidding me?”
Since the NFL-AFL merger, only eight teams have repeated as Super Bowl champions. The Chiefs are the first team to have the opportunity to win a third straight title.
To achieve this feat, the Chiefs will have to overcome the Philadelphia Eagles, who boast a strong rushing attack led by Saquon Barkley. They will also have to contend with the Eagles’ defensive front, which includes Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Milton Williams.
The Chiefs and Eagles will face off in Super Bowl LIX on February 9, which can be seen on FOX and Tubi.
