Chiefs fans’ deaths: Former detective says criminal charges still possible.

A year after three friends, Clayton McGeeney, 37, Ricky Johnson, 38, and David Harrington, 36, were found dead in their friend Jordan Willis’ snowy backyard in Kansas City, Missouri, their families are still seeking answers about their mysterious deaths.

The men were found frozen to death behind Willis’ home on January 9, 2023, just two days after they watched the Kansas City Chiefs play the Los Angeles Chargers together. Preliminary autopsy results showed that fentanyl, cocaine, and marijuana were found in their systems, but the families have questioned Willis’ involvement in the incident.

Willis’ attorney, John Picerno, had previously told Fox News Digital that charges would be forthcoming in the next few weeks, but that claim has yet to materialize. The Platte County Prosecutor’s Office has said that an investigation is ongoing, but family members and a representative from the prosecutor’s office have told Fox News Digital that there have been no updates in the case.

The families have become increasingly frustrated with the lack of progress in the investigation and have threatened to sue each other in civil court. David Harrington’s father believes that Willis played a part in the incident and that they “just [haven’t] figured out how yet.”

A former prosecutor, Julie Rendelman, told Fox News Digital that if Willis was responsible for his friends’ deaths, he “likely would have been arrested already.” However, she noted that the investigation may not be over and that detectives may be withholding information from the public to prevent outside influences from impacting the case.

A criminal defense attorney, Ted Williams, expressed similar sentiments, saying that a year later, a medical examiner should have complete autopsy results, which could lead to charges being brought against someone associated with the deaths.

Rendelman also noted that the investigation could still be ongoing and that the public may not have access to all the information because detectives are still gathering evidence. The families may also seek answers through the discovery period of a civil lawsuit if the prosecutors’ office continues to keep them in the dark.
