Sunday was supposed to be an easy win for the Kansas City Chiefs, but it ended up being a nail-biter. Despite holding a 20-9 lead at halftime and an 11-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter, the Chiefs found themselves in danger of a serious upset.
The Carolina Panthers chipped away at the lead, playing stout defense and eventually tying the game with just over a minute left to play. However, the Chiefs were able to get into field goal range, thanks in part to a 34-yard scramble by Patrick Mahomes. Spencer Shrader then drilled a 31-yard field goal as time expired to give the Chiefs a 30-27 victory.
The win improves the Chiefs’ record to 10-1, despite not playing their best football. Mahomes went 27-for-37 with three touchdowns, including a score to DeAndre Hopkins. The Chiefs will now host the Las Vegas Raiders on Black Friday, a team they beat earlier this season but lost to twice last year.
