[The Super Bowl matchup is officially set: The Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs will face off once again for the NFL’s biggest prize in Super Bowl LIX in two weeks in New Orleans. The game is set for a 6:30 p.m. ET kickoff on February 9 at the Caesars Superdome.
In the AFC Championship game, the Chiefs used a little magic from their star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and a controversial call from the referees to secure the opportunity to try for something that’s never been done: a Super Bowl three-peat. Mahomes finished with 245 passing yards and a touchdown, adding 43 yards and two more touchdowns on the ground.
Meanwhile, the Eagles won 55-23 over the Washington Commanders, with quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley both scoring three touchdowns on the ground, with Hurts adding a TD throw. Barkley’s performance earned him the distinction of joining Kurt Warner as the only players in NFL history to score three rushing touchdowns in a playoff game.
In the NFC Championship game, the Eagles got off to a strong start, with Hurts and Barkley leading the way. The two Eagles stars combined for three rushing touchdowns in the first half, including a 60-yard score by Barkley and a 1-yard touchdown run by Hurts. The Eagles led 20-12 at halftime and never looked back.
Washington’s quarterback Jayden Daniels and company fought valiantly, but ultimately fell short, committing three turnovers, including two fumbles, and failing to capitalize on several opportunities. The Eagles’ defense was able to hold off the Commanders’ late rally, and the game ended with a convincing 48-23 victory.
The Eagles will be making their second Super Bowl appearance in four years, while the Chiefs will be seeking their third consecutive Super Bowl title. The teams have met once before in the Super Bowl, with the Chiefs coming out on top in a dramatic 38-35 victory in Super Bowl LVII.
