[Chevy Chase’s Blunt Assessment of Film Director’s Work Leaves Him Baffled

Chevy Chase has a reputation for saying exactly what’s on his mind, and a recent anecdote featuring the comedic actor and “Saturday Night Live” alum proves it. According to film director Jason Reitman, Chase delivered a blunt assessment of his work during a recent screening of “Saturday Night,” a film that follows the creation of the first “SNL” broadcast in 1975.

After the screening, Reitman recalled that Chase approached him, patted him on the shoulder, and said, “Well, you should be embarrassed.” Reitman’s take on the interaction is that it’s a classic Chevy Chase moment, one that’s equal parts “pure comedy and humanity.” However, Reitman also acknowledges that the comment stung, as he had invested two years of his life in bringing the moment to life.

Despite the initial shock, Reitman seems to have taken the comment in stride, laughing it off and saying, “None of that s— played. He’s not talking about that stuff.” The anecdote came up during a conversation with comedians David Spade and Dana Carvey, who jokingly praised Chase for his unfiltered approach. Chase’s co-stars in the film, Cory Michael Smith, portray him as one of the original cast members heavily featured in the film.
