OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Visits Fox Business Network, Announces Resolved Downtime
OpenAI reported on Thursday that its popular AI tools, including ChatGPT, Sora, and its programming interface for software developers, were functioning again after a four-hour outage. The outage on Wednesday was the second significant disruption in recent months, with a five-hour downtime in June.
The company’s CEO, Sam Altman, emphasized that ChatGPT has reached 300 million active users per week, further solidifying its mainstream appeal. Apple released new software updates for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, integrating ChatGPT capabilities, bringing the technology to a broader audience.
Prior to the outage, OpenAI had announced the release of Sora to users in the U.S. and most other countries, but later noted that it underestimated demand, stating that it would take time to provide access to all users.
As a rapidly growing company, OpenAI has seen its valuation soar to $157 billion following an October funding round, with participation from existing backer Microsoft and chipmaker Nvidia. The company’s rapid ascent began with the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, making it the most significant story in the tech industry over the past couple of years.
