Radio host Charlamagne tha God has dismissed President-elect Donald Trump’s sentencing in his New York trial as “pure political theater” and a “waste of time”. On Friday, Trump was sentenced to unconditional discharge after being found guilty on charges of falsifying business records stemming from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s years-long investigation. The sentence officially makes Trump the first U.S. President to be a convicted felon, but he will face no fines or jail time and is able to appeal the conviction.

Charlamagne, co-host of “The Breakfast Club”, reacted to the news on Monday’s show, calling the sentencing “a waste of time”. “What a waste of time. I mean, what a waste of time. Pure political theater. They were never, ever going to convict a former, or sitting, president of nothing,” he said.

He also criticized liberals for celebrating the conviction, arguing that it is meaningless given the sentence and that Trump will still be president for the next four years. “Who cares if you can call him a convicted felon when you still gotta call him president for the next four years? Who cares?”

Charlamagne was joined by co-host DJ Envy, who wondered if the trial was worth the cost to New York taxpayers. “In the New York case, they said it cost $50,000 a day. It probably cost around $2 million dollars,” he said. “What’s the point?”

The radio host also questioned the motives of prosecutors, including Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, asking what they hope to achieve in bringing the case. “Somebody needs to ask them, the Fani Wilises of the world, like, ‘What’s the point? What are you trying to prove right now?'” he said.
