A US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) pilot was killed in a helicopter crash near the southern border in California on Monday. The Eurocopter AS35 helicopter went down around 10:15 a.m. in a private field near Potrero, east of San Diego. The pilot was the sole occupant of the aircraft and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The CBP Air and Marine Operations aircraft was on a border security mission when it was involved in an “aviation mishap.” The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the incident.
This is the second helicopter crash in San Diego County this year, following a February incident that killed five U.S. Marines. The NTSB will provide further updates on the investigation.
