Cardinals Safety Budda Baker Lands 3-Year, $54M Extension

A New Era of Consistency for Budda Baker: Cardinals Safety Signs 3-Year, $54 Million Extension

A fresh era has dawned in Arizona, and a trusted stalwart is set to stay the course for the long haul. Budda Baker, a six-time Pro Bowler, has agreed to a three-year extension with the Arizona Cardinals, reportedly worth $54 million with $30 million guaranteed. The deal will keep him with the team through the 2027 season.

Baker, 28, will earn $18 million per season, a significant increase from his current salary. His yearly average will place him fourth among safeties, recognizing his impressive production. The extension comes as no surprise, given his exceptional performance this season, which has seen him lead the NFL with 88 solo tackles and produce 142 combined tackles, just five away from his career high.

Baker’s journey to the top began in 2017, when he was selected in the second round of the NFL Draft. He soon earned a starting role and has consistently played at an elite level. He has attended five consecutive Pro Bowls and leads the Cardinals with two sacks and three pass breakups, providing veteran leadership and toughness during the team’s 7-7 season.

In the spring of 2023, Baker’s future in the desert appeared uncertain, with his request for a trade under the new regime of general manager Monti Ossenfort and head coach Jonathan Gannon. However, he has since committed to the team, and the extension ensures he will remain a key part of the franchise’s future. It’s not entirely out of the question that this could be his last contract, setting the stage for a sensational, potentially career-long, partnership with the Arizona Cardinals.
