Cardinal eight-time All-Star rejects potential Astros trade.

Nolan Arenado’s Future Looks Bleak Outside of Cardinals

It’s becoming increasingly unlikely that Nolan Arenado will wear a uniform outside of the St. Louis Cardinals. The eight-time All-Star has three years remaining on his deal and a no-trade clause in his contract. The Cards are looking to rebuild and are perhaps their hottest trade commodity on the market.

The problem is that Arenado must give permission to trade him, which so far he has not shown a willingness to do. Reports have surfaced that the Houston Astros, who have been searching for a new third baseman, agreed on a trade with the Cards but the deal fell apart when Arenado declined to waive his no-trade clause.

It’s unclear why Arenado has no interest in playing in Houston, where he could potentially win more games, but he appears to have a specific wish list for potential trade partners. His agent, Joel Wolfe, has stated that his client’s list is “bigger than you would think” but they are not willing to join just any team.

With the no-trade clause as a roadblock, teams like the New York Yankees and New York Mets have also shown interest in trading for Arenado, with the Yanks reportedly feeling that he didn’t fit into their system earlier this month.

With his impressive Gold Glove Award collection, career stats, and likelihood of reaching the 2,000-hit mark, Areando has the potential for a future Hall of Famer status. For now, his future looks dim outside of the Cardinals and the cards are stacked in his favor.
