Montreal Canadiens Rookie Injures Himself in Car Accident in Salt Lake City
Montreal Canadiens rookie Emil Heineman is expected to miss three to four weeks after being hit by a car while walking downtown in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Monday. The 23-year-old player suffered an upper-body injury in the incident, which occurred when the Canadiens were in town to play the Utah Hockey Club.
According to the Salt Lake City police, they received a 911 call at 3 p.m. on Monday, but were unable to locate the pedestrian or the driver who reported the incident. It wasn’t until later that evening that police received information from a nearby business that they were likely associated with the crash. They discovered that Heineman was the pedestrian and that he did not show any signs of serious injuries and was being attended to by team doctors.
The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, but police have identified all parties involved and are unable to release any additional details. Heineman has played 41 games this season, and has 10 goals and seven assists, making him third among rookies in goals scored.
The Canadiens’ next game is set for Thursday against the Dallas Stars.
